Prince Gallitzin

Born Russian Orthodox, and Russian nobility, Demetrius Gallitzin came to the United States after converting to Roman Catholicism. He was the second priest ordained in the U.S., and went on to do more than anyone else to establish the Church in central and western Pennsylvania. He spent a lot of his own money — until his family cut him off — building churches, as well as mills and other facilities for the locals to establish industry.
