Before his tragic death on new Year’s Eve, Roberto Clemente was one of the greatest baseball players of his time. He grew up in Puerto Rico and was a convert to the Catholic faith after moving to Pittsburgh to play for the Pirates. He was always engaging in charitable works, and it was in one of these pursuits that he boarded an overloaded plane bound for Nicaragua on that ill-fated night.
