Episode 172

Bob Newhart is one of the most influential and beloved comics of the last 60 years. He burst onto the scene with a comedy album that won the Grammy for album of the year in 1961, and solidified his place in American comedy history with two long-running television sitcoms, The Bob Newhart Show, and Newhart. His understated, polite, stammering style were something new in comedy, and his odd way of looking at the world endeared him to millions. He also was married to the same wife, Ginnie, for 60 years until her death earlier this year. He attributed his success in comedy and in his marriage to his Catholic faith, and his education by the Jesuits at Loyola University of Chicago. Bob Newhart is 93, and as of his 90th birthday he was still touring.
